How are you?

if you are a manager, team-leader, or any co-worker. Make it a habit to ask "how are you?"

RU OK day just went by this last week.

With the new work week almost upon us, I want to emphasise the importance of asking "How are you?"

Many years ago I started a new job where my direct manager regularly asked me how I was, or how I was doing.

This was not just a normal morning routine. He was (and still is) super customer focussed and he applied the same level of care and concern to his own staff.

In the same company after moving into a different role I came across another colleague who would always greet others via email/chat messages with "Hi.. How are you?"

It may not sound like much, but for me, the above two examples made a world of difference to how my work day would go.

So if you are a manager, team-leader, or any co-worker. Make it a habit to ask "how are you?". This simple proactive action rooted in empathy will make the other person happy and further build the one-to-one relationship.
