Good advice

Good advice

Very early on in my technical career my direct manager gave me some advice which I still use and often think about.

Paraphrased -
"Faisal, write down what you learn. If you see something that is not well documented, or explained, go away and write it down. The more material you create, the more that has your name on it, the better you'll be for it."

I applied it when I saw a need to create new or improve provisioning guides, support material, and wiki pages.

I successfully carried this same habit when I got a break into doing BA work. In-fact my documentation skills probably played a big part in making my transition into the BA role easier.... I'll write a separate post about that journey soon.

The benefit of being a creator/documenter is the sense of ownership and pride you have in the input and you are potentially making work easier for others.

It's a great feeling.

These days, with almost all enterprise environments running Confluence, it is easy to create meaningful content for your team and co-workers.

If this is something you are not doing, then I encourage you to try.
if you have junior staff, pass on this advice.

Happy writing
